The notes of this series are a direct echo of the military coup of 25 February 1980, when a group of 16 sergeants led by Dési Bouterse overthrew the government of Prime Minister Henck Arron and Suriname entered a long period of military rule. The front shows soldiers and a woman, a scene dedicated to those very events.
The Centrale Bank van Suriname issued the series on 1 April 1982, partly revising the previous range: 5, 10, 25, 100 and 500 guilders, without the 1,000. This 25-guilder note is a late issue of the series, dated 1 November 1985.
Only a year after that date the series was replaced by notes bearing the portrait of Anton de Kom, printed in England by De La Rue.
Its late 1985 date complements the 1982 issues in a series run, and the note itself documents Suriname’s era of military rule, a precise fit for a «coups and revolutions on world money» set. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
